Why I decided to pursue journalism

Hello, reader! This is T.Sanders, the journalist behind The Sanders Pen.

The Sanders Pen is a mirror of my desire to create and share stories serving the public interest coupled with the drive to bring light to different aspects of artistry and culture.

I remember vividly going through the motions fall semester of my sophomore year at university before I decided to sit on the idea of creating my own journalism publication. I’ve written a handful of news articles for my university’s student-owned publication, and decided to reach for the opportunity to pitch, write and edit stories completely on my own. Through my experience with journalism, I’ve come to realize I wish to seek out the voiceless and give them a voice, allowing my curiosity to run free and report on a range of topics from everyday events and trends to breaking news and politics. As I run this publication, I hope to master the art of patience, listening and accountability so I can be the journalist I strive to be.

The Sanders Pen is not just a place to report hard news, please don’t make that mistake. I look forward to writing and uploading articles about artistic pursuits and passions. Expect cultural and artistic news regarding film and music, as well as news regarding cultural events.

I desire for The Sanders Pen to share artistic and cultural news for the communities I am located in. I want to shed light on indie musicians, small authors, and upcoming cultural events. Art is an important necessity in a society where artificial intelligence is pushed and the humanities is criticized. I have my own artistic passions, especially in the music department. I’ve been an instrumentalist since I was young and will continue playing in the future. Music has had a major impact on my life and I will continue to nurture it through covering it’s musicians. I plan to do something similar for other art outlets. There will be highlights on indie artist and small indie films. I look forward to my journey with The Sanders Pen in terms of the topics and columns that will be explored.

Ultimately, The Sanders Pen is an independently run platform created to contribute to the fast paced multimedia industry. The Sanders Pen is free and accessible to the public. Readers will have the option to donate money if they desire, but it’s not advertised. There will be efforts to ensure this website runs smoothly to be able to support its audience.

I want my readers to be able to hold me accountable. There are ways to provide feedback on any work by messaging the writer. I wish the best for this website and it’s readers, and I can’t wait to see where this journey leads.
